More on COVID-19

I thought I’d pass on some links to a couple of pieces relating to COVID-19. First, here’s a paper positing that East Asians have developed genetic resistance to coronaviruses (PDF). And CNN remarks on a cache of “Internal Only” papers documenting how initially China covered up the scale of the COVID-19 outbreak there.

New Jersey reported some data from contact tracing.

    https://www.newsweek.com/nj-gov-says-about-7-10-residents-not-cooperating-covid-contact-tracers-1551241

Contact tracers can only contact 47% of confirmed cases; and only 30% of those were willing to volunteer any contacts. That is a 15% response rate.

    Sigh.

  • I’ve been predicting that since February. Another complication. I believe that the first thing that many people will do if they get a COVID-19 diagnosis and are still well enough to scurry, they’ll scurry around preparing for an illness. Which, of course, maximizes the likelihood they’ll give it to someone else.

Trump knew all about China in January. China hiding stuff didnt really make much difference.

On the local front our admissions went up about 40% over the last week. Number of Covid pts in the ICU went up about 30% but we are still seeing many fewer Icu admissions. Deaths up about 60%. We are back to a majority being over 61, about 69%. Hospitals are almost full. Staffing becoming an issue. No one wants to stop elective procedures but we are at risk of running out of room soon. Our days on call are just brutal now. Didnt sleep at all on my 24 hour call. Non-stop. I know the conservatives think this is all a hoax but I am exhausted by this hoax.
