You might want to read the post at American Affairs by Michael Anton, “America and the Liberal International Order”. Its gist is based on a desire to make the “liberal international order” great again.
Heck, I’d be satisfied if the liberal international order were liberal again. Romanticizing the Middle East or Islam isn’t liberal. Neither is tolerance of China’s bad behavior in pursuit of a buck.
Maintaining the “liberal international order” means taking harsher Saudi Arabia’s side against Iran, pretty steadily. Even as the hegemon is now prioritizing transgender mainstreaming. It also meant overthrowing Mossadegh…a leftist nationalist. I see a pattern here.

Note from Anton’s wiki he championed the Iraq War, even after “paleo-isolationists” like Pat Buchanan…and leftists like Scott Ritter…had exposed the WMD lies as fake news.
He admitted his mistake…but….claimed Obama then left Iraq too soon.
Very convenient.
Still, Anton’s better than a neocon….but would you trust him, from his history, not to push Trump into sending more troops into Syria?
