This will just encourage the Republicans to nominate the pro-life/no exceptions, mandatory arming of school teachers, lets cure homosexuals candidate that Illinois has been dreaming of.
So what is so new about that? Aren’t most political contests, these days, about charisma and personalities rather than the content and real construct of ideas?
Perhaps it’s an idea that’s only amusing to Illinois residents. Both Quinn and Daley are, err, charisma-deficient. Quinn is governor by accident. Daley has never been elected by anybody to anything. Under the dictionary entry for “apparatchik” there’s a picture of him.
Here is a nice picture of Daley to get an idea of what he looks like.
That website also has a recent poll (post-Madigan) of likely Democratic primary voters with Quinn leading Daley by five points, 38-33. I don’t know how the poll was written, but it appears that 29% of Democrats prefer Mothra.
Mothra? Now Gamera I could see. Who doesn’t love Gamera?
Mothra is the environmental-earth goddess, savior of the world, whose ascendancy has been foretold for the last three elections cycles.
Speaking of Chicago, movies, and faces — Dennis Farina has died. One of my favorite actors. I thought he had a tremendous screen presence. A face made for movies.
