John McCain’s “American Greatness”

Donald Trump is a boor. I doubt there is a single American who doesn’t realize that. He should honor the ancient dictum, de mortuis nil nisi bonum—speak nothing but good of the dead.

I respected John McCain but I disapproved of his version of “American Greatness” deeply. It meant war without end. When he stood before a microphone chanting “Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran” he was jesting in earnest.

It is possible to disagree with someone and still respect them. President Trump should cultivate that skill. Meanwhile let’s not forget just how wrong Sen. McCain’s views were. His supporters should stop conjoining the man with those views.

    “Donald Trump is a boor.”

Indeed. But McCain was a self promoting, ethically challenged man. His service to his country is undeniable, and should be acknowledged and admired. But all soldiers are not great people just because they were soldiers, and lord knows all politicians are not.

Liberals did, and would again, if it didn’t serve an anti-Trump purpose, shit all over him.

Yeah, McCain was a man, good and bad, born the son of an Admiral, he was sure to be a pilot, not a grunt. He handled himself well as a POW, according to reports. Then in civilian life, he fell in love with a coors brewery distributorship in Az. and married her. He did well for himself. But did he really WANT to be POTUS? His glowing depiction of the glorious qualities of Barrack Obama make me wonder.
And yeah, Trump’s off base again. Pretty clear gloves are off.

They were going to disagree with his policy choices, for sure. However, I am not finding instances of prominent liberals denigrating his military service like Trump did. Care to cite some examples?
