Iditarod 2010

Yesterday my wife and I watched the ceremonial start of the 2010 Iditarod, the 38th Iditarod. Today we watched the “restart”, the actual start of the race. We look forward to an exciting week of following the mushers as they traverse the trail from Willow, near Anchorage, to Nome.

As in previous years we’ll be following at all hours of the day and night via the Internet. If you’re interested you can check out the goings on at the official Iditarod site. Also, as last year we’ll be checking out the positions of the mushers via GPS, a fascinating use of the technology.

I’ll also post on the progress of the race near daily until the red lantern is awarded on the last day of the race.

I’m one of the relatively few (strictly recreational) mushers in the lower 48 who also blogs. I may be the only mushing blogger in the political blogosphere.

If you know any good blogs covering the race, please leave links in the comments.

The picture above was taken from the Anchorage Daily News, probably your best site for Iditarod coverage.
