Eye on the Watcher’s Council

As you may know the members of the Watcher’s Council each nominate one of his or her own posts and one non-Council post for consideration by the whole Council. The complete list of this week’s Council nominations is hosted by Wolf Howling here. The Council plans to continue the present rotation scheme until the arrangements subsequent to the Watcher’s retirement are finalized. Stay tuned!

With the sad departure of Done With Mirrors from the Watcher’s Council there’s a spot available. If you have a blog of your own, please consider applying for a position. If you’ve applied before try again. The rules and responsibilities are here. Please leave your application in the comments to this post or in the post at Wolf Howling linked above.

The Glittering Eye, “Finding the Anti-U. S. Angle”

Have you ever noticed that some people labor mightily over every possible event to find the anti-U. S. angle to it? My submission this week is about an instance of that phenomenon.

Soccer Dad, “Reuters Rooters”

Soccer Dad detects a lack of impartiality on the part of Reports Without Borders when commenting on the killing of Palestinian cameramen by Israeli soldiers especially by comparison with how they’ve reacted to the killing of reporters by the Russian military in Georgia.

Bookworm Room, “ McCainiacs thinking outside of the box”

Bookworm is looking for ideas on attracting the so-called Reagan Democrats to support John McCain. Bookworm, I think that a lot of the Reagan Democrats are Republicans now. I also don’t think that guerrilla theater will appeal to that particular demographic group.

The Razor , “Vindication”

Scott feels vindicated in his support for “the surge”.

Joshua Pundit, “Georgia’s Fallout – The Good And The Bad”

Freedom Fighter takes a look at the scorecard on the Russia-Georgia conflict. I’m surprised he didn’t mention the curtailing of the burgeoning Georgia-Israel relationship.

Wolf Howling, “Life In A Socialist Nanny State: When Petty Bureaucrats Have Power Over Life And Death”

GW recounts the story of a coastguard lifesaving crew that was chastised for saving the life of a girl swimmer for doing it without permission.

Colossus of Rhodey, “The Best Thing About the Free Market …”

Hube is het up about the problems he had with a new pair of sunglasses and the way he was treated when he reported the problem. There are a lot of good things about a free market and being able to vote with your feet is just one of them. From my point of view the best thing about a free market is that you don’t systematically misallocate resources. If only we had a free market!

Rhymes With Right, “ McCain Campaigns & Deals With Policy While Obama Bodysurfs”

I’m not so sure, Greg. One of the benefits of being the frontrunner is that you can take a few days off before the election in Hawaii. I note that if Sen. Obama is elected and continues to vacation in Hawaii there’ll be a lot more reporters eager to cover the presidential vacation than now when such sojourns take place in Crawford, Texas.

Well, I’ve decided which posts I’ll vote for this week. Which posts would get your votes?
