Dog pictures on a beautiful fall day

It’s an absolutely beautiful day here in Chicago this morning and it’s been a while since I’ve posted pictures of the puppies.

I’ve finally been able to get some nice pictures of Nola. In this picture she’s chewing on a bit of mulch.

A closeup. I love that little biscuit patch on her forehead. I suspect it will fade with time. Will isn’t in these pictures because he and my wife are off playing.

Here Nola’s making up to Tally. See the raised paw? That’s a puppy thing. “I’m just a baby!” Adult dogs will do it, too. It’s either a sign of submission or, oddly, ownership. Females do it more than males in my experience. Tally has taken a rather reserved air with the puppies.

Qila’s taking a rather dim view of the entire proceedings.

Now he’s giving me a piece of his mind.

I did want to catch all of them in the same picture. This is the best I could do. Nola is growing so fast!  She’s not a little baby any more.

Hi David. Nola sure is a beauty. I hope she winds up having ears like Qila. I have always loved Qila’ ears. I’m not sure what is so distinctive about them but I think they are cool. What are the two poles in your yard for?

Do you often take the dogs for separate play time? It’s nice to give them individual attention. I am glad that Qila is still with you. He has made a permanent pocket in my heart that will always be his.

  • The poles are canine agility weave poles.

Yes, Qila has beautiful ears. Nola is a very pretty little girl and has good conformation. She could use a little more angulation but she’s very balanced. She also can move like the wind and, judging by her older full sisters (the previous litter), she will be quite the agility girl.

We make a point of giving the pups separate time for play, training, and attention. It’s not easy but we want them to have full, separate lives and to be more attached to us than they are to each other.

Qila is, indeed, a very special dog. I consider every day he’s still with us a blessing. He’s slowing down little by little but as of today he’s still himself, doing all the things he loves to do, and living his life as he always has. Someday he may tell us that he’s not enjoying his life anymore but that day wasn’t today.
