Catching my eye: morning A through Z

Here’s what’s caught my eye this morning:

  • EconoPundit Steve Antler has a very sane suggestion in response to Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s call that Israel be removed from the face of the earth: isn’t a recognition of the other members’ rights to exist a minimum requirement for membership in the UN?
  • The best dam post you’ll read all day from Environmental and Urban Economics.
  • Functional Ambivalent posts on the politics of Godzilla. I don’t agree, however, with his (and others) notion that the Miers nomination somehow marks the end of the Bush presidency. The president continues to have to power to declare war, appoint Supreme Court justices, and direct executive departments. The empire can strike back (and not just a tail flick before descending beneath the waves).
  • FuturePundit comments on what is probably actually the most important story of the day: the publication of the first phase human genome haplotype map. It’s been available online for some time and has already produced results, e.g. the determination that the gene responsible for macular blindness was a gene that influenced inflammation.
  • Spoons isn’t going away mad.

That’s the lot.
