Carrying on after the tsunami

It’s fallen off most people’s radar but for many people in the affected areas the recovery from last year’s Christmas tsunami has barely begun.

A friend of mine (my niece’s roommate) has produced a documentary on the effects of the tsunami on two Sri Lankan villages: one Singhalese, one Tamil. The documentary has interviews with people in both villages and aid workers. It also features some gorgeous scenery and popular music I doubt you’ve heard before. Take a look—you’ll probably learn something. I know I did.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Sri Lankan government is doing very little for these poor people: it appears that they’re more interested in pursuing their own political interests than in giving a hand to people who didn’t have much to start out with but each other and from whom the tsunami took even that.

Please bear with me: this is my first experiment in embedded video and it’s in progress.
