Bloody 2021

Here in Chicago we’re off to a bad start. In 2020 homicides outstripped any year of recent memory other than 2017 and we’re already on a path to outdo 2017’s sorry total. There have been 39 homicides so far this month and the month isn’t over yet.

In 2020 the number of carjackings doubled over the previous year. We’ve already had 160 so far this year. ABC 7 Chicago reports:

CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago’s public safety committee called for several city and council leaders to testify Friday to explain what they are doing to keep people safe from the surge in carjackings.

More than 160 carjackings have been committed since the beginning of this year, according to police. In 2020, carjackings more than doubled over the previous year as police set up a task force to tackle the issue.

“Women are being snatched out of the car. Grandmothers are being snatched out of the car,” said community activist Andrew Holmes.

Police said armed thieves are terrorizing drivers parked in their cars and stopped at lights, rideshare drivers picking up and dropping off passengers. The crimes are accumulating so fast, police can’t possibly keep up.

Many of the carjackers are teens. No one knows for sure whether they’re just doing it for kicks, there are organized carjacking rings, or some other explanation or several all at once. Judging by the map here, the carjackings are concentrated in a few neighborhood and there’s a strong correlation between the start of stay-at-home orders due to COVID-19 and the upswing in carjackings. If, as is suggested, the reason for the increase is boredom, it will be darned hard for the Chicago police to bring it under control.

And if they don’t bring it under control soon there are several possible risks. One risk is that people will leave Chicago at an even faster rate. The other is that people will start to prepare for carjackings.

In ‘81 we were in Houston during an epidemic of carjacking.
Drivers were shot in the head at stoplights and drug out in the street.
Motivation was probably theft as they were predominantly expensive cars. Plus almost all drivers in Houston are armed and dangerous themselves.
Autos are becoming more expensive and harder to impossible to hot wire.
    This could be economic.
Those lacking human pity could also be emboldened by the reticence of the police.
You’ll have more guns and more killings.

Stop with the “teens” crap. You mean young, male, underclass Negros.

The black underclass is the greatest threat to the US by far. Their IQ’s are in the 70’s. They are by and large illiterate and violent. They are responsible for over half of all murders in the US, most serial murderers, almost all interracial hate crime, blah blah blah. They have NO economic productivity and rely on White charity simply to survive. They refuse to assimilate, hate everything and everyone White, and they cannot be governed.

The black/white conflict will get much worse under they Biden regime. China, Russia, climate change, energy policy, interest rates, trade deficits, all are irrelevant to our future success or failure.

    Bob Sykes,
    I actually share that view.
UNTIL, l widen the lens, see the wider picture. The violent underclass didn’t create their world. They were born into it.
It’s truly a “Lord of the flies” society. Breakdown of families by well meaning social programs, ridicule of God and faith by learned elites, public schools giving diplomas to illiterates.
Laws that neuter powers of teachers and parents and police.
    Again well meaning.
Who are the violent men? 13 to 23 years old. They rarely reach our ages. Lives lived quickly and thoughtlessly, regretted.
I’ll avoid them too. They’re too young to be the base cause of the problem, but they must be held accountable. Defund the police at your peril.
People see George Floyd’s end. But never his violent life and self destructive behavior.
Tax and benefits need to be rewritten to encourage two parent families even if the Left should demand 20% be gay and bi-racial. We can fudge that.
    Next decades teens need fathers.

  • There are many reasons that Bob Sykes’s observation is wrong. Let’s start with this one. The black rural homicide rate is about the same as the white rural homicide rate and both are lower than the urban homicide rate. The reason for homicides is gangs. Full stop. The reasons for gangs are social, economic, and because they receive support from politicians.

Effectiveness and success in work is rarely based on IQ. Other factors, especially, socio-emotional development are generally more important.

Even if it were true that as a group people of sub-Saharan African ancestry had lower IQs, it tells you nothing about any given individual. Some are smarter than most people of primarily European ancestry.

Lives lived quickly and thoughtlessly, regretted.
    I’ll avoid them too.

Rev. Jesse Jackson said pretty much the same thing.

I think I’ve said before my experience is different than yours. I’ve never seen or met a rural Black person. The thought leaves Nebraskans scratching their heads.

  • That’s partly because Nebraska is one of the whitest states in the Union. 8% of the rural population in the U. S. is black. That compares with 13% of the urban population being black. Every Southern state or Border state has a substantial black rural population. For example nearly 40% of Mississippi’s rural population is black.

4% of Illinois’s rural population is black (mostly in the far southern part of the state).

One point I should add. You pointed to a major problem in the black community: broken families. The migration into the cities and public aid broke black families. Broken families is a big reason that young black men are driven into gangs.

“even if the Left should demand 20% be gay and bi-racial.”

We were hoping for 50%. Equality!

    @Steve:
Love equality. Let’s you and I merge our equity and split it 50-50. You earned yours? Privilege.
Seriously, I have a sister with two five bedroom homes, one unoccupied. We are five in a two bedroom farmhouse.
Thought about that merger but it didn’t fly past my wife so, sister has her loneliness, we have our independence.

The Biden administration will announce a slate of political appointees to the Office of Personnel Management on Monday, and more than 85% of them identify as people of color, women or LGBTQ, according to a copy of the list obtained by Axios.
    OKAY, 50%. Then.

Talk of families and gangs brings to mind the chicken and the egg quandary.
Italian gangs WERE families. As are Mexican cartels.
So family disintegration isn’t necessary for gangs to form.
A need for protection and economic opportunity can provide the pull if families don’t provide it another, more honest way. That seems to be true even when the family is present, but weak.
