And They’re Off!

The Senate’s impeachment trial of President Donald Trump has officially begun. ABC News reports:

The Senate has set the stage for the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump after Chief Justice John Roberts administered an oath of “impartial justice” to every senator on Thursday.

The trial will begin next week, but some terms are still up in the air, including whether to allow more witnesses and evidence as Democrats point to new claims made by Lev Parnas, an associate of Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, who says Trump was aware of his efforts to pressure Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.

Here are my predictions:

  1. Trump will be acquitted.
  2. If witnesses are called Democrats will be disappointed with the results.
  3. The results of the vote on the trial will largely be along party lines. Where you stand will depend on where you sit.
  4. Everyone will complain about the other team’s partisanship.

The only real question will be whether more Democrats vote for acquittal than Republicans vote to convict.

The real message is that our government and politics are completely corrupt and it’s not merely a question of people engaging in illegal conduct but what is legal.

IMO that’s a best-case scenario. If that occurs shampeachment 2.0 will immediately start. The Democratic opposition is so deep in s**t the only way they think they’re going to be able to get out of the honey pit is by continuing to keep throwing its contents at Orange Man Bad until they knock him down into the pit so they can crawl over his body to get out of it.
But if they actually manage to do that before 2025, or continue to hound him after he’s out of office, I strongly feel that they’re going to regret it. And not just politically.
And these are the people who claim they are the party of laws and norms.

Trump will most likely be acquitted. His defense team is an interesting mix of well known, experienced lawyers having strong constitutional backgrounds. However, with the MSM unable to give any responsible, reliable, or verified discourse about events, other than “Trump is going down,” this will end up being an emotional, messy, embarrassing affair. It will further weaken the country’s unity, and create even more anger and discord between already polarized fractions.

I personally see nothing gained by the 24/7, 3+ year innuendos of wrong-doing stirred by democrats, with tons lost, including few bipartisan achievements amidst all the time lost in constant turmoil.

So it looks like those who predicted the impeachment trial would begin when Congress came back from the holidays won the sweepstakes along with those who predicted it would be occur by the Iowa Caucus.

From the looks of it, the trial won’t end until after the Iowa caucus, New Hampshire primary and Nevada caucus. And Hunter Biden will likely have to testify in the trial.

How is that going to interfere with the nomination process?

  • I doubt it will have much effect on the primaries. Joe Biden’s polling numbers are actually rising a little in Iowa.

“The real message is that our government and politics are completely corrupt and it’s not merely a question of people engaging in illegal conduct but what is legal.”

Agreed. What Trump did was an abuse of power and totally corrupt. However, the GOP controls the Senate so he will walk away no matter what he does.

“And Hunter Biden will likely have to testify in the trial.”

They are going to impeach Biden? This is about Trump. If Congress wants to separately look at the corruption that exists when politicians family members benefit from their position, go for it. That would e awesome. Let’s do the Bidens, add in Ivanka and Jared, then go on to the dozens, probably hundreds of other family members. Of course there is zero chance this happens.

If one follows the Hunter Biden saga, they realize how terribly embarrassing if Hunter testifies in court.

May not affect Biden’s standing with voters directly, but it may affect Biden himself — having your kids dirty laundry displayed to the nation won’t be an easy thing to push aside.

    “if Hunter testifies in court.”

Which would have what to do with the Trump impeachment? Do we get to hear about Jared’s questionable real estate deals then also?

If Jared’s business dealings were created and/or enabled by the power of his father-in-laws office being in the WH, I would be amenable to hear about it. This would be especially true should deals made or lucrative positions offered cause his father-in-law to twist arms and deliver threats against any investigations being pursued into these questionable business arrangements. In fact I would applaud equal skepticism and curious inquiries into any government representative, official and their family members over irregularities, unusual monetary contributions to their”foundations,” etc., no matter what political club they are affiliated with.

You realize we’d never get done.

Small potatoes. Who cares? There are none in Washington whose hands are spotless.

“Who cares? There are none in Washington whose hands are spotless.”

You dont, and neither do any Republicans. Of course I suspect that means you didnt really care about the Clintons and you dont really care about Hunter Biden and Joe, since no one’s hands are spotless correct? Or maybe you only care if it is someone you dont like, which I suspect is closer to the truth.

I thought impeaching Clinton was wrong, distracting the President of the United States over trivia.
Joe and Hunter? Sickening. But more than that, China now knows Joe can be bought, that troubles me. What’s worse, Americans seem clueless about Chinese tactics and may put Xi in the Oval Office.
