And Now We Hold Our Breath

Now we’re waiting to see what the House will do with their two articles of impeachment. I presume the House will vote to impeach but you never know. I then presume that the Senate will conduct a trial and then vote to acquit but you never know.

I am neither outraged nor heartened by Time’s naming Greta Thunberg as its Person of the Year. I’m just not that interested in POTY any more.

If the House fails to pass both articles Pelosi’s gone. The Squad and their allies won’t tolerate such an utter failure at removing Orange Man Bad (again). My prediction I posted on an earlier thread stands: Both articles get passed, Senate dismisses articles as being unworthy of a trial, Democrats declare victory and move on to the next attempt to overturn the 2016 election (and there will be).

POTY of the year: I’m with others elsewhere on the web, the HK protestors should have gotten the magazine cover. Guess Time is too afraid of Xi to do so. What courage they display!

    Time’s naming Greta Thunberg :

Puts a compelling human face on mankinds’ utter failure to save the planet. Puts her on a par with Iron Eyes Cody.

“I’m just not that interested in POTY any more.”

    That’s my view as well.

As for impeachment, unless something happens, the course appears pretty clear – passage in the house on a party-line vote and acquittal in the Senate, also on a party-line vote.

I’m 100% for the students in Hong Kong being named POTY. While it may only be symbolic, it demonstrates a far more substantial analysis, as to what is involved with choosing someone, or a group of people for such a cover story – people putting their lives on the line To preserve their freedom, vs a scowling teen superficially (IMO) elevated to prominence in order to promote a controversial wedge issue.

As for the impeachment proceedings hovering over DC – I hardly see a way around any avenue for Democrats other than a partisan passage of this farce. The Senate only seems to be mulling over whether they will quickly put the impeachment trial out of it’s misery, or extend it to graphically demonstrate what a completely partisan ruse this entire get-rid-of-the-president gambit really was in the first place.

Furthermore, IMO, boiling beneath the surface, is a growing public indignation regarding the nonsensical theater the democrats have needlessly put the country through. And, the negative feedback will be transmitted in next year’s presidential election.

I think Greta ought to get POTY just for surviving child abuse……….

Gray, that was a long article entangled with critical assessments that were difficult to differentiate from factual content to simply biased opinion. It was, though, “interesting” to read, and did offer a juxtaposition to the story now being portrayed in the media.

If those British exit polls are to be believed, even through the UK is another country and Brexit != Trump, Democratic Congressman in Trump-leaning seats may suddenly need a lot of arm twisting.

From 3-6 D voting no on impeachment, it may approach 10-15.

It has been said the British exit polls are usually pretty accurate. If this continues and Conservatives win by a large margin, I can see their election bring a template for our own in 2020.

I really think the democrat party’s ability to sensibly lead has been stunted by their enormous hatred for Trump. Not only has their behavior become insufferably toxic in conducting the peoples’ business, but they have also become politically blinded, unable to see the negative impact their unending resistance has been not only to the country but to themselves as well.

I would be very cautious about using British election results to analog the US Presidential election. For one thing, the US analog to the areas that switched conservative (working class, “left behind”) in the U.K. went Republican already in 2010, 2014, 2016.

The Democrats do hold working class seats but they are majority African American. There is a possibility that in a generation they will be competitive but the Republicans are not in shape to compete for them in 2020 or even 2024 – for one thing, they need to have actual candidates first.

I will say Dave had the best insight a while back when in one of the few remarks he had on U.K. politics was the British parliament’s refusal to do Brexit was going to cost many MP’s their jobs. I didn’t believe such a result would happen until tonight.

Back to impeachment… we will find out how much arm twisting is needed this weekend.

When has the media not obsessed over blonde girls? Everything has to be politics doesn’t it?
