CNN reports that the FBI has rounded up a group plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, kill her, and overthrow the state’s government:

Washington (CNN)Thirteen people were charged Thursday in an alleged domestic terrorism plot to kidnap Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, federal and state officials announced.

The alleged scheme included plans to overthrow several state governments that the suspects “believe are violating the US Constitution,” including the government of Michigan and Whitmer, according to a federal criminal complaint.
Six people were charged federally with conspiracy to kidnap, and seven other people, associated with the militia group “Wolverine Watchmen,” were charged by the state, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced.

I honestly don’t know what to say. We’ve got to lower the temperature, starting with President Trump. He needs to stop egging such nutcases on. He hasn’t created their fantasies but he’s encouraging them.

And mayors and governors need to start enforcing and obeying the law. Failing to do so is not public-spirited regardless of how high they might believe their motives are.

Radical, far left resistance members still in the FBI identified the disgruntled yet impotent group, infiltrated and encouraged their plots.
This has led to an array of criminal charges and the impression of danger from far right groups.
All talk and probably lots of drinking until the FBI joined to lead from behind.
    Political stunt.

  • AFAICT they’re anarchists—not accurately described as either left or right.

Back around April, a man went to the Illinois State Capitol in the early evening to speak to the legislature, and he was told that he had to leave because the legislature was not in session and COVID restrictions were in place. The man asked questions about the nature of government, left then returned immediately. He was told that he would be arrested for trespassing, if he didn’t leave. He left to drop his belongings (including a folding knife) turned back around to face the security guards in a fighting stance and said “Let’s do this.” He lunged at the guards, striking one in the mouth, shoving another, while the guards surrounded drug him to the ground to cuff him.

I like to think the questions on government concerned its function. Does it exist to provide explicit contractual benefits? To prevent a life of conflict in which everyone’s life is nasty, brutish and short? To tabulate and execute the general will of the people? To rule?

Like to see him with Dr. Phil.
He may have had points to make, but felt deep frustration when disregarded and the poor guards were handy.

The right will find some way to justify these guy’s behavior. See above as an example. It is also funny that they support anything the police do when they are shooting unarmed people, supported police/FBI when they were catching Muslims under somewhat similarly, alleged, circumstances, but now when someone perceived to be on their team has an issue the investigators will be awful people.

    “AFAICT they’re anarchists”

Same as Antifa. So we could either understand that anarchists are in ag group of their own, or continue to link whichever anarchist group you are pissed at to the party you dislike. I am betting the second choice wins.

‘He needs to stop egging such nutcases on. He hasn’t created their fantasies but he’s encouraging them.’

Don’t recall OMB urging members of the public to violently overthrow any elected officials. He may have criticized them, but only in Leftist LaLa land does criticism=urging violent action.

‘And mayors and governors need to start enforcing and obeying the law.’

Enforcing the LAW, not gubernatorial edicts. That’s been the problem. And in many cases they’re enforcing the edicts only selectively; Trump rallies BAD, BLM/ANTIFA riots GOOD.

For all practical purposes these anarchists were LARPing. On the order of John Brown at Harpers Ferry thinking that once he seized the armory and put out the call to the slaves to revolt they would throw off their chains and flock to him and massacre their owners. Did they really think they could actually succeed? That Whitmer would just calmly remain in her office while they stormed it and took her prisoner?

‘Radical, far left resistance members still in the FBI identified the disgruntled yet impotent group, infiltrated and encouraged their plots.’

I have no warm and fuzzies for the FBI at this point, but do you have any proof of the ‘radical far left resistance members’ being the ones who played agent provocateur to these nutcases?

And we do have recent history of political actors creating or juicing up conspiracies in order to gain or keep power.

“He needs to stop egging such nutcases on. “

The guy who was accused of being a Russian traitor and stealing the election, being 25th amendment insane, a tyrant and dictator or Nazi, a racist, a xenophobic provocateur…………is egging them on? The guy who, despite selective editing by the media, Democrats and his current opponents has disavowed them all, is egging them on?

That statement can only be described as bizarre and misdirected.

And These whack jobs do not support or listen to Trump.

And now it seems like Director Wray like in all things he does has shown his incompetence once more. At least one of the Whitmer kidnap plot has been found to have participated in a BLM rally. I wouldn’t be surprised if others in the plot were too. Difficult to spin them as right-wing nutcases when they’re participating in burn-baby-burn movements.
