I have little to say about the nineteenth anniversary of the attacks on September 11, 2001. We have spent trillions. I think we have learned little and not accomplished a great deal. Osama Bin Laden is dead but there are still a lot of radical Islamists who hate us out there. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if there were more today than on September 10, 2001. I think we’re just as much at risk of Islamist terrorism as we were then. We’re still in Afghanistan with no real prospect of leaving.

If anyone sees anything worthwhile being published on the subject, please take note of it in comments.

Our longest ongoing war is Somalia. We’ve been fighting for 28 years, and still have some 600 troops in-country. al-Shabaab has replaced Aidid. We can’t beat them, either.

Besides Somalia, we have troops in action across half the countries in Africa, plus Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Indonesia, and the Philippines. There are so-called advisors in Columbia and Ukraine. In Libya we kinda, sorta support Gen. Kalifa Haftar and his Libyan National Army against the official government in Tripoli. The French are doing our dirty work there, along with Egypt, UAE, probably Israel, et al.

Every time Trump orders troop reductions in those wars, the Joint Chiefs and most of Congress mutiny, and the CIA/FBI gin up another coup plan. His claim that the Generals and Admirals want these wars rings true. Eisenhower would understand.

In conservative world the CIA, FBI, military and the local PTA have plotted out dozens of coup attempts. Eisenhower would laugh at these claims.

You actually sound like a Trump supporter now. Trump’s willingness to stand against the military industrial complex is one of the biggest reasons he is hated by inside Washington.
