When I drove downtown to work this morning, I was reminded of those 1950s-1960s movies dramatizing the aftermath of a nuclear war—newspapers blowing through empty streets, etc.
Very few people are here. Things really have changed.

It’s been my experience for some time now that the days around major holidays — especially Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day — are ones in which very little actual work gets done.
Around here I’ve been scrambling—tackling all sorts of things that in theory are outside my area but that need doing and I’m the only one here to do them. I’m staying in touch with the higher-ups via email (they’ve mostly taken the day off) so I have authorization but still.
