Wondering

I wonder when I’m going to be laid off from work. It’s not that I’m not working (I worked on both Saturday and Sunday, for example) but when you’re physically present in the office it at least looks as though you were working. I’m expensive and, regardless of how valuable I am or how much I bill, the temptation to get rid of me is always great.

I hope it doesn’t happen to you Dave.

By brother-in-law works at a bar in Ohio, he’s laid off as of today due to the governor closing them down. He plans to file for unemployment which, so I hear, you can now do online.

I’m lucky that my job is 100% remote. So nothing really changes for me.

I can be as productive remotely as I can in the office, probably more so. It’s not the reality, it’s the optics.

If my bosses read their emails, I could prove I’m working that way but they don’t. It’s a pretty low trust environment. I’ve got a lot going against me. I’m expensive, I’m old, and I’m an American. In my favor is that I probably bill more than anybody else in the company, every project I touch turns to gold, and pretty much everybody thinks I’m the smartest person in the company.
