I agree with the first sentence of Bruce McConnell’s piece on U. S.-Russian relations at RealClearWorld:
The bilateral relationship between the United States and Russia is at its most dangerous point since the Cuban missile crisis.
Not only is the relationship bad, that it is so bad is almost entirely our fault. Over the last 20 years we have expanded NATO to the Russian border despite commitments not to, tried to expand NATO even farther into Georgia, supported neo-Nazis’ overthrowing of the legitimately-elected government of Ukraine to replace the pro-Russian government with a pro-U. S. one, ousted the Qaddafi government from Libya despite our assurances we would not, and supported violent radical Islamists in Syria attempting to overthrow the Assad government.
Their protestations to the contrary notwithstanding, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Russian government had engaged in hacking and disinformation campaigns during the 2016 U. S. presidential election. The U. S. has interfered with the democratic process in Russia, Congo, Chile, Guatemala, Italy, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, Honduras, Venezuela, and who knows how many other countries, frequently in much more kinetic ways than hacking. We should remove the beam from our own collective eye before our complaints about the mote in the Russian eye can be taken very seriously.
I’m all for confidence-building with Russia. What should we do to boost their confidence?
My suggestion is to go back to where this episode of Cold War started, Ukraine.
Try to make it a bridge instead of a dividing point – remember it started as a fight over whether it would have a FTA with the EU or Russia. Maybe it can have trade agreements with both. Of course it may not be possible after Crimea and the Donbas.
It is a notorious fact that the policies that have brought the US and Russia near to war are promoted by neocons, a largely Jewish group with an pathological hatred for Russia and Russians. In order to improve our relations with Russia, we have to ignore the neocons.
WHOA! Jewish Nazis!!
You don’t have to be a Nazi to hate Russians. Ask any Pole or western, Catholic Ukrainian. For that matter, the Nazis hated all Slavs, including Poles and all Ukrainians.
Go lok up the neocons name by name. Every one of them is Jewish and hates Russians.
Couldn’t find the Neocon registry, or membership list?
