I thought you might be interested in this graphic, thoughtfully provided by the New York Times. It actually surprised me a little. I would have thought that Warren would have received the most time by far. As it is she came in third.
How is it that Booker managed to capture as much time as he did? Were the moderators afraid to cut him off?
Apparently, Gabbard followed by Booker were the most Googled following the event. I would think that bodes well for both of them. I’m not as surprised by the interest in Gabbard as much as the pundits seem to be.
Gabbard accomplished her sole goal in the debate: “Hey, I’m here!”
Mission accomplished.
Booker and Beto are zeros and no amount of time will save them.
Warren just bided her time until the also rans peter out.
Mission accomplished.
I think it’s also notable how much of the total time was devoted to something other than answering questions (downfoot the times reported). Apparently, the moderators spent a lot of time talking.
I should mention that I think a credible hypothesis is that Booker is running for vice president. IMO he’d make a good pick particularly if the presidential candidate is white as seems to be likely. Others running for VP: Julian Castro, Amy Klobuchar, Tulsi Gabbard.
The graphic is a bit confusing. For example, it appears that Booker didn’t discuss climate change (no olive color), but further down the page Booker gave climate change as one of the greatest geopolitical threat to the U.S. (along with nukes). So, I’m guessing he answered a question of what is most important without discussion.
I assume a lot of policy preferences are similar, so prioritization might be important to the prospective voter, so the graph seems important, but maybe insufficient. And what is the gray color?
I assumed that the bars colored gray indicated throat-clearing—remarks not particularly devoted to any of the topics.
“I should mention….”
I think that’s as good a hypothesis as any. But unless race is that important to a voter, Spartacus is just a total zero. I’d take Tulsi Gabbard over him any day. In fact, over a number of these numb nuts. Her biggest issue for me is the hyperbole over Iran. But she has to posture.
I think that without a substantial black voter turnout the Democrats don’t have a chance of electing a president. Think of a black running mate as an incentive.
Given’s Biden age, voters are voting as much for the VP as the top of the ticket
