Who are we, politically?

If you haven’t already taken a look at it, you really should read The Pew Research Center’s report, Beyond Red and Blue. It considers both the divisions between the political parties and the divisions within the parties, distinguishing among the following groups:

Republican or Republican-leaning

Enterprisers (these are what Mead called Hamiltonians)
Social conservatives (a good portion of Jacksonians are social conservatives)
Pro-government conservatives (most of the rest of the Jacksonians)

The Political Middle

Upbeats (most of the Wilsonians)
Disaffected
Bystanders

Democrats and Democrat-leaning

Liberals
Conservative Democrats
Disadvantaged Democrats

As the man says, read the whole thing.
