When, Indeed?

The following multiple choice question was posed in comments by regular commenter CuriousOnlooker (I have added a few options):

When will the House transmit the articles of impeachment to the Senate?

  1. Today
  2. Before Congress goes on holiday
  3. As soon as Congress reconvenes in the New Year?
  4. After the Iowa caucus
  5. After the Easter break
  6. After the Party conventions in Aug
  7. After the election
  8. Never

I think it’s going to be #3 or #8.

    8.
Or in the event something unexpected turns against Trump before the election. In the meantime, I’m sure some member has more bile to spew in the chamber.

Pelosi reasoned the impeachment had to be rushed because of being a national emergency. So, if she believes this to be true than “A” should be the answer.

It’s too delicious a moment to send over and see it slapped down.
She sounds like she’s searching for leverage over McConnell and I cannot imagine anything she could do that wouldn’t harden his position.

IOW, Gray, are you saying Pelosi lied about impeachment being a national security emergency? Wow, what a revelation!

Irony aside, the House Dems are acting so childish that whatever they do, it will not reflect any maturity on their part, or be helpful to anyone outside of DC.

Let’s be grownups, everyone is lying. It’s Just another tactic now.
    The gloves are off.

I think its clearly 3 or 8. But seriously, have these people gone nuts? Do they think the electorate is that stupid. After the kangaroo proceedings, all the drivel about sacred constitutional duty and notions of imminent peril in the absence of impeachment they are going to turn around and not send the articles unless they can dictate terms to the Senate………..for an unconstitutional purpose? They supposedly are playing to only 20-25% of their base, or are they?

The Turtle will have fun with this one. Something about eating….rhymes with hit.

    # 9. When Chuck and Mitch work out the details, which could take a bit, so the spotlight is clearly shinning on the Senate, the Senate will be under the public’s eye now. We’ll get the trial once the rules are put in place.

  • #3
Pelosi would be shirking her duties if she pulled a #8, and it’s not her place to insinuate herself into the trial. It’s important that every member of Congress be on record as to Trump’s impeachment or removal, for the sake of history.

#10- When Pompeo, Bolton and Perry agree to testify so that we can have a full exoneration. LOL

The optimum time is now, before recess. Any delay discredits the House process. #3 is way too late, and the later dates will embarrass the Democrats and seal Trump’s victory in 2020.

Remember the State of the Union is scheduled for late Jan / early Feb. If impeachment is still a live matter then, get the popcorn ready….

This thing takes really strange turns. When I made a prediction (was it last week) about how long the Senate trial would take, I assumed that the Republicans would be the ones trying to present a whole bunch of stuff that the House didn’t present for reasons (presumably good or bad). I didn’t think it was possible that the Democrats would might be a source of delay during their primaries. Again, going back to earlier calls for impeachment, the argument was made that while the Senate partisanship might mean that he isn’t removed, it was important to hold people to account with their votes and the judgment of history.

I have no idea, but if the judgment of history is important, it won’t be 8. Probably 3?

There are now people referencing the Constitution, saying impeachment is a process – a vital part being sending it over to the Senate for a trial – not just taking a vote. Consequently, until the House completes their job of delivering these articles of impeachment to this second phase in the Senate, Trump may be able to technically declare he hasn’t been impeached. What a hoot. The Dems are being so devious, and all they are doing is stepping on rakes that are hitting them in the head.

Whenever McConnell agrees to a fair hearing. i.e. never.

    He’s been impeached *

I’d guess 3 is the most likely. I think 8 is the least likely as it would give Trump a great narrative to use against the Democrats for the election.

I guess if the House refuses to officially move their articles of impeachment over to the Senate, but are still able to stick the impeachment label on someone, then I could take a college class, drop out midway, and still get credit for that class rather than an ”incomplete.”
