I suspect this is a topic we’ll be stewing about for some time. I have a question: what was the source of Southwest’s problems over the last week?
- Inadequate investment in their flight scheduling systems
- Outsourcing
- Human error
- Generational change
- Bad weather
- Bad luck
Without any insider knowledge my guess is that it was a combination of three or more of those factors.
I don’t think this will break Southwest but it’s certain to be a setback.
G. bad labor relations. There were reports some workers walked out in Denver which caused a cascade of cancellations
Now I’m trying to figure out what the federal government might do to prevent a recurrence. I’m stumped.
A lot of the stuff I read suggests they have a fairly archaic employee scheduling system so they cant respond well to sudden changes. Since there were concerns about this happening for several months I suspect it was multifactorial, no one specific thing to be fixed.

Have mayor Pete say the usual words. Appear to care. Do nothing real.
Same as it ever was.
