I found Walter Russell Mead’s column in the Wall Street Journal about the vital importance of extending U. S. relations with Azerbaijan something of a head-scratcher. It’s clear to me what Russia’s interest in the Caucasus including both Azerbaijan and Armenia is: Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia were a part of Russia for 200 years. It’s less clear to me what the interest of an energy-independent U. S. might be. I can also see what the interest of Western Europe might be. Is Dr. Mead’s point that we should be pursuing German, French, etc. interests regardless of costs or of our own?
William Russell Meade is an old-school 19th Century imperialist and war monger. He is on board with any attempt to actually dismantle the Russian Federation and China and to occupy/destroy the Islamic Republic of Iran. He is a spokesman for that faction of the Deep State that runs the color revolutions (Belarus, Georgia, Ukraine) and that wreaks havoc on Third World countries (Libya, Yemen). If they can manage it, they will somehow manufacture an excuse for war with China and/or Russia, most likely by inciting Taiwan or Ukraine to commit some sort of lunacy.
Meddling in Azerbaijan serves no American interest, nor is it intended to. It is part of the program to dismantle the RF. It is a parallel operation to the Belarus and Ukrainian efforts.
This faction runs their own foreign policy independently of the President. Members of the faction are on White House staff (Vindman) and State Department (Nuland, Jeffers). There are likely other factions. The main/only interest of the neocons is promotion of Israel. And then, there is the SJW’s, currently running amok in the Pentagon, pursuing racial vendettas. And there is a faction, Eisenhower’s MIC, in the Pentagon whose only interest is milking the Pentagon budget for personal gain. They gave us Zumwalt, LCS, and now the Ford.
It is a serious error to think that there is a unified executive in Washington or that the US has a foreign policy. It doesn’t. There are only competing factions wrestling for power and attempting to put their own delusions into action. We are in the imperial end game.
We do have bigger fish to fry.
