What Will the Protests Accomplish?

I want to ask a question. What will the protests against ICE raids accomplish?

IMO if the protests were to remain entirely peaceful there is an outside chance that they could turn public opinion against Trump on immigration enforcement. The enforcement hasn’t been 100% just or equitable. It should be easy to build opposition to something that isn’t 100% just or equitable.

On the other hand protests that escalate into riots and looting will increase public support for Trump’s immigration enforcement. It doesn’t make any difference whether the violence is confined to five square blocks or 500.

Ruy Teixeira is very hard on Democrats for their tone deafness with the riots. Ruy is a Democrat writing a substack called the Liberal Patriot:

Rioting, looting, waving the flag of a foreign country, and burning American flags during your “protest” does not tend to persuade people to your cause.

Protests only accomplish stuff when the government is sensitive to protests. They have worked in other countries like Egypt. I think you could make the case that the extended protests during the Vietnam war helped push us towards leaving. Maybe the protests and occupation of state capitals during covid helped influence state policy. In this case Trump is a lame duck (maybe) who only cares about opinion from his base. So I dont expect the protests to accomplish much.

The violence will only sway public opinion against the protests. Dem leaders know that and they arent advocating for violence. They are kind of in a Catch -22 where people have a legal right to protest but they dont have a right to be violent. Remember that the Floyd protests initially had some support but once a few of them had some violence they lost that support. The caveat here is that the Trump people appear as thought they want and are trying to provoke reactions.

People who voted for Trump have shown little desire for protesting in general. During Biden’s term they mostly stood by the roadside waving American flags, homemade signs, with some shouting insults. Except for the master class exploitation of the J6 protest, no windows were broken, cars set on fire, graffiti sprayed on buildings, spitting on people, obstructing freeways and boulevards. Trash was usually carried out at their big rallies. Basically, the more violent protests have been carried out by an assortment of leftist groups who seem to have lots of fun creating chaos.

These are staged, organized riots, acted out by professional, paid rioters in the employ of the DNC. All the riots of recent years were organized and paid for by the DNC.

jan- I and others on my team received death threats during covid. There were protests, demonstrations and we had people camped out with signs at the homes of public health people. Several state capitals were occupied, often by people bearing arms. To be sure, most fo those states had open carry laws but what do you really think would happen if people showed up to these protests carrying guns?

The riots are paid, all of them everywhere, by the DNC. Ought to easy to find evidence of that. LOL

Shining the light on the truth has its own intrinsic value. That’s why it is so often countered with propaganda, such as everything Trump sees on TV is an emergency justifying seizing autocratic power.

I’m hoping lots and lots of convictions.
@Steve, Death threats from family members is the least you deserve after isolating severely ill patients and denying them possibly life saving pulmonary rehab out of fear that you may become infected.

Grey- When did I do that? Just so you know, I wouldn’t be in the room when someone was getting pulmonary rehab anyway. I was in the room for a lot of bronchoscopies and intubations, theoretically the highest risk procedures where one could get infected so if for some strange reason I had the urge to be in a pt room while the respiratory therapists were working that would have been much lower risk.

I do have to wonder where you would even get such an idea. I think your Youtube sources are either lying to you or terminally stupid.
