VW Flatfooted

Will VW’s woes never stop? There are new reports of the company’s fudging emissions tests, this time with respect to carbon dioxide:

Has Volkswagen been rigging Carbon dioxide emissions tests as well as diesel emissions? “The government believes the accusations are serious and that Volkswagen has a duty to transparently and fully clear them up”, said Steffen Seibert, adding that “Volkswagen has made this promise”. Everything erupted back in September when United States authorities exposed VW for using “defeat devices” to cheat several critical tests for emissions of nitrogen oxide, something that causes smog. That cheat-ware scandal affects 11 million or more cars – now Volkswagen says an internal probe has uncovered 800,000 vehicles that emit unexpected levels of carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas. The two main cars affected are the VW Polo and Golf, but a few cars from the Audi, Seat, and Skoda brands are also included.

Recently, I’ve heard about an offer of $1,000 (in credits) to disgruntled U. S. customers of its diesels as compensation on the part of the company which strikes me as taunting those customers to sue the company. Meanwhile, the company’s stock continues slouching downward, trying to find bottom.
