Tredecimum Non Datur

I was surprised that in the list “ideas to save Europe” he presents in Politico EU Jacoppo Barigazzi doesn’t present the one idea that seems most obvious to me. The ideas he does allow his readers to vote for include refocusing on security, economy, and youth unemployment; a eurozone government; more technocracy less politics among others.

But he doesn’t include dumping Germany out of the EU or at least out of the euro. Germany’s GDP is the highest in the EU, its GDP per capita is among the highest, its unemployment is the lowest, and it has the largest trade surplus. Getting Germany off the euro would do more to help the rest of the members of the eurozone than all the other measures put together.

So, how to? Dissolve the EU, re-introduce national currency (at what rate per Euro?), let everybody but Germany negotiate a replacement? Sounds easy enough if they be willing to cut the golden apron strings.
