I don’t know if you’ve noticed it but if you prowl the comments sections of enough blogs you run into a lot of different commenters and often become pretty familiar with the style and ideas of individual commenters (whether they have their own blogs or not). There’s a particular kind of commenter that’s beginning to drive me nuts.
These are commenters who essentially have one idea. No matter what the original topic of the thread this commenter will twist the topic around to his or her favorite subject, frequently hijacking the thread.
These bloggers aren’t blogroaches or trolls. Sometimes they’re perfectly nice and genuinely have something to say. But every post gets twisted to their favorite subject.
Some of the prime subjects for these commenters are:
drug legalization
anarchy (taxation is theft!)
the Left
George W. Bush
Ayn Rand
U. S. imperialism
Islam
We really need a word to describe this behavior. The best thing I’ve been able to come up with so far is “thread-hog”. Help me out here. Any suggestions?
“Black Holes”? They are destructive, contribute nothing, and utterly warp space around them.
You’ve noticed them too?
Oh, yeah.
“Monomaniacs” seems to fit.
