Their Anniversary

I’ve been rather glum today. Today would have been my parents’ wedding anniversary, more years now than I care to count.

Both of them are deceased and I guess the day is only important to me now. I can hardly forget. The date is engraved in the ring that I wear—my mother’s wedding ring, sized to fit me.

They were two people, neither of whom had much in the way of families or childhoods of their own, who joined forces, determined to be better parents than theirs had been.

They were tremendously successful at that. My siblings and I all had happy childhoods, all of us graduated from college (some of us with post-graduate degrees), we’ve all worked hard our entire lives, none of us have been divorced or convicted of any crimes, all but me are retired or nearly so, all of us are reasonably healthy for our ages.

You done good, Mama and Daddy.

Is the ring inscribed with their wedding date? I’m thinking of them too, and yes, they done good. Wish they could have had more years together. They sure squeezed a lot into the years they had.

  • Yes it is

Thank you for the remembrance. Especially in today’s day & age, I am so grateful for the decade I’ve been married, a small drop in the ocean compared to some, but something I try to invest in, protect and uphold every day.
