BummerDietz of Scylla & Charybdis weaves together the War on Terror, the invasion of Iraq, the collapse of the Soviet Union, cognitive dissonance, and the non-behavior of the Arab Street in a brilliant post that you really need to read (hat tip: Wizbang). The ideas that he outlines have been my understanding of the Grand Strategy for some time but he adds some very ingenious new wrinkles.
My concerns about the plan from day one haven’t been the objectives, the tactics, or the strategy. My concerns have been the timeframe and the likelihood of eroding support at home over that timeframe for such a plan. And my conviction that a terrorist attack on an American city with a nuclear device will require extraordinary leadership and circumstances to prevent things from going to Plan C.
