I am generally wary of John McCain’s advice. He holds a view of America’s proper role in the world that is quite remote from mine. In particular he seems to believe in much more use of force by the United States than I believe is prudent.
That said in the video above he says something that’s remarkably astute about the large number of Chinese students who have been studying in the United States to the effect that when they go home they’re not satisfied with what they see in China. I was reminded of G. K. Chesterton’s remark that the value of foreign travel is the ability to return to your native land and see it as though going to a foreign one.
