The Most Important Man in the Democratic Party…

is the senior senator from New York, Sen. Chuck Schumer. How he handles the office of Senate Minority Leader is likely to set the tone for the next four (or, heavens forfend, eight) years. If he is as relentlessly partisan as retiring Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has been, we’re in for a bumpy ride.

The most dangerous place in the world is between Schumer and a camera. Expect to hear from loud and often.

  • As fate would have it I happened to attend an event at which Sen. Schumer spoke a couple of years back and got to see him in person at first hand. Basically, he gave a standard stump speech.

IMO he’s a lightweight but now he’s a very powerful lightweight.

Schumer is smarter than Reid. He’s no less partisan, but he’ll work with anyone to achieve what he can, and leave himself plenty of room to blast his occasional allies in the press. He’ll Gang of Eight everyone if he can.

    If not Her, Who?

Hillary is done. She’s old, in bad health, a drink, and has tremendous amounts of baggage. Stick a fork in her.

We can only hope, ice, that you’re right.

Oh Hillary is done. If she runs again she be campaigning at 74 years old and she’s lost two bids for the Presidency already.

    “….will Hillary run again?”

I think she’ll turn to her hobbies instead. I hear she’s obsessed with yoga.

  • Maybe my recollection is wrong but I can’t recall any Democrat running for president after already having been defeated in the general election once since Stevenson. It’s become a sort of taboo. And, as Andy noted, she’ll be 74. She’s done.
