The Great Halloween Snow

Chicago has only seen measurable snow on Halloween six times in its history. Yesterday, Halloween, Chicago received the greatest Halloween snowfall in recorded history. In my neighborhood it was around 3.5″. In some places it was as much as 6″. Basically, it’s a mess. Snow-covered trees in full leaf, a few so burdened down with snow that branches have fallen.

I remember Halloween snow once during my youth in Chicago. In those days we trick-or-treated for 3 days and we didn’t drag adults along to supervise us. Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be.

We had two snows this week, for a total of around 10 inches, and we also broke records for low temperatures on the 30th. That’s in addition to a snowstorm we had in early October. Snow in October isn’t that unusual here though.

It warmed up enough for trick-or-treating to not be miserable and tomorrow it’s going to be about 60.
