The Coming Democratic National Convention

Chicagoans are looking forward to this week’s Democratic National Convention with considerable apprehension. What will happen? No one really knows.

The best case scenario is that it will be a joyful celebration, entirely peaceful—an introduction to the coming Harris Administration. The worst case scenario is that it will be a rerun of 1968 and demonstrators, Chicago politicians, and the Chicago Police Department will reveal exactly who they really are—a somewhat less benign introduction to the coming Harris Administration.

I’m hearing that all kinds of protesters are in town, most notably pro-Palestinian. You would know better, presumably on the strength of local reporting.

I’m not sure it’s still Mayor Daleys police force. But I doubt they would win a Miss Congeniality contest. The boarding up of businesses must be an indicator.

Maybe your illustrious Mayor and Governor will do a Walz, or a Joker, and just let it burn. Sad that it’s even on the table.

I do not recall the book, but Hunter S. Thompson writes about going to the 1968 Chicago Convention with a motorcycle helmet in his bag. Although, you would probably need to be an HST fan to appreciate it.
