I’ve finally done the calculation. 2.5% of my DNA is Neanderthal DNA. That’s a bit lower than the 2.6% Northern European average.

How did you figure that out?
So you get you big heart and propensity for booze from the Irish;
Your attention to detail and tight-fistedness from the Swiss;
What do you get from your Neathdrethal?
Flat feet and sex appeal?
Do you have a pronounced brow?
Doug:
It’s a bit like that old Hungarian recipe for Romanian chicken. It begins First steal a chicken. First, get your genome analyzed. I got that done through one of the commercial services. They did the work.
Flat feet—check. Sex appeal—not so much.
Since my Neanderthal ancestry is about 5% lower than the average Northern European, the better question is what didn’t I get in my Neanderthal DNA. Frankly, I doubt we’ll be able to answer that question in my lifetime.
I didn’t realize biotech firms were offering services to determine one’s ancestry. Home kit?
Cf. here.
The specific service I used was 23andme.com. They don’t do a complete analysis but it’s interesting and not terribly expensive. It’s a pastime.
