Taxes

Over the weekend I prepared our 1040 for 2018, the first time in years I’ve done so this early. We owed very slightly less than last year. It was also probably the first time in my adult life in which I took the standard deduction.

My wife and I are by no means wealthy. We’re both fairly healthy. I think we’re what most people would call “comfortable”. We’d be a lot less comfortable if I stopped working. We have a few luxuries—our opera subscription and the dogs. Otherwise we are pretty frugal.

Our primary concern right now is that the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago will drive us from our home.

Our taxes went up, but we moved our domicile to a new state (Colorado) that has an income tax. Our federal taxes went up as well, but not exactly sure why as our income hasn’t changed – something I need to dig into.

I have said it before, you need to get out of Illinois.

Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, all would be only a day’s drive away from any family you have in Illinois. They should move, too.

You live in a criminal-controlled state in a black city. There is no future for you and yours where you are.

We’ve just turned our taxes in, and are paying more than last year. Of course, living in CA the motto here is “tax as much as you can get away with.” However, if the Democrats win the 2020 election then such taxation madness will spread throughout the country. That’s all the dems have in their governing playbook —-> promise more freebies and then raise taxes on the middle & upper classes to pay for it.
