Diane Pathieu reports at ABC 7 Chicago that Robert “Bobby” Crimo, the suspect arrested on Monday, has been charged on seven counts of first degree murder and dozens of other charges in connection with the shooting in Highland Park on the 4th of July:
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) — The suspect in the Highland Park parade shooting that left seven people dead and dozens injured is expected to make his first court appearance Wednesday morning.
Robert Crimo III, 21, of Highwood was charged with seven counts of first-degree murder, Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said Tuesday. Dozens more charges are expected to be filed in the coming days.
“Attempt murder charges, aggravated discharge charges, aggravated battery charges: There will be dozens of more charges against Mr. Crimo,” Rinehart said.
If convicted, Crimo would be given a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole, according to Rinehart.
Some questions about how he obtained his firearms legally remain.
Update
I don’t agree with everything in John Kass’s latest offering but these are good words and well-spoken:
Paul Crimo is the uncle of Robert E. “Bobby†Crimo, the suspect in the mass shooting that killed at least 8 people and wounded at more than 30, firing off some 70 rounds from a Highland Park rooftop. Uncle Paul said he was stunned. He said he had no idea his nephew contemplated violence.
Bobby Crimo apparently lives with his uncle.
“We’re deeply, deeply sorry for everyone who lost their lives,†Paul Crimo told Fox Chicago. There were “no warning signs†he said. “I’ll be heartbroken for the rest of my life at seeing what happened.â€
But you’re alive. And your nephew is alive. And no one I talked to on Tuesday who had friends and family members struck by gunfire in Highland Park believes there was no warning. They know there were plenty of warnings.
Bobby Crimo III, the 21-year-old suspect, had posted videos filled with violence and his fantasies of mass shootings. He calls himself “Awake the Rapper.â€
And no one knew?
He left a trail of violent videos and images, glorifying murders, talking of the inevitability of his “awakening,†the way an insect transforms, or a mass murderer morphs into what he’s becoming. I watched one video in which he’s in a classroom talking about murder. I turned it off. I couldn’t watch him anymore.
And there were no warning signs? They didn’t see anything?
Nobody believes that.
What questions? He was old enough. No criminal record. The best Highland Park can do is put up a memorial with the names of the people who died or were shot on it. Maybe an inscription thanking them for the brave sacrifice of their lives so that we might all bear arms.
Steve
The firearms were apparently purchased before he was old enough which means he required sponsorship.
