Sunday quick glances (UPDATED)

There are a few things today that are worth a glance:

  • Joseph Marshall of A Straight Shot of Politics ruminates on the current crop of teenagers. I’ll have more on this post later today.
  • Gerard Vanderleun of American Digest is disgusted with the lack of proportion in modern thought as exemplified in the reaction to the recent Saddam Hussein picture.
  • Freakonomics, the blog. Hat tip: Gary Farber. By the way, Gary apparently chose Revenge of the Sith over food and has lots of interesting comments, deleted scenes, etc. Take a look.
  • A round-up of Revenge of the Sith pans from Beautiful Atrocities.
  • Callimachus of Done With Mirrors responds to my Fahrenheit 451 stick revealing several more things we have in common.
  • A fascinating essay from economist Brad DeLong on the limitations of modern economic theory. There’s an old Yiddish proverb: “When a woman comes from a far country and tells you she’s divorced, believe her.” Believe him. Hat tip: EconoPundit.
  • I’m with Gene of Harry’s Place on three liberal, democratic Saudis who have received long jail sentences there:

“Instead of holding hands with their oppressors, Bush should be symbolically joining hands with these three corageous men.”

Worth a glance!

Sunday quick glances (UPDATED)

Here are a few things work taking a glance at this morning:

  • I see that Wretchard of Belmont Club’s thoughts expressed here
    echo mine expressed here.
  • Brad DeLong vs. David Wessel: grading Democrats on Social Security reform.
  • Arnold Kling’s EconLog has a very interesting post on the bell curve in medical care outcome data.

Does it make a difference for health care policy whether the outcome data is bell-curved or shark-fin shaped? How about compensation? Both bell-curved? Outcome data bell curved and compensation shark-fin shaped? Remember that the formidable barriers to entry in the health care industry preclude a market in health care services.

  • Nelson Ascher of Europundits reflects on 2004.
  • The Laughing Wolf notes that reknowned science fiction illustrator Kelly Freas has died. May he rest in peace and perpetual light shine upon him.

I’ll be updating this throughout the day.
