Have I mentioned this before? Story idea: a retelling of Robinson Crusoe set in the middle of a major city.
I assume you’ve read Robinson Crusoe and recognize that it’s not just an adventure story but a story about how a man slowly loses his mind due to isolation. There is such a thing as technologically-based isolation, too. I sometimes wonder how much misery it’s causing?
It doesn’t have to be due to technology. We have seen it at our church with older people when a spouse dies and they have no family near. Friends die off or move South or become debilitated. Then it becomes self reinforcing as they get depressed. We have an active outreach program for these older people who become alone. I kind of think tech might help thembif they would use it.

It certainly isn’t due solely to technology although technology facilitates it. There was a whole book written on the subject of voluntary isolation and its ills, The Pursuit of Loneliness, back in 1970.
I don’t mean to narrow this thread to older folk, but my own experience shows hearing loss to be a factor. Memory, too. Younger people can’t STAND to hear the same story twice.
