Spitting Contest

Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney tore into present Republican frontrunner in a speech at the University of Utah, as reported by the Washington Post:

“Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud,” Romney told nearly 700 people at the University of Utah. “His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University.”

This is the part that caught my attention:

“He’s playing members of the American public for suckers…”

Clearly this is a turf battle. Everybody knows that’s the job of elected officials.

Gov. Romney apparently hasn’t realized that’s part of the reason for Trump’s popularity. A good chunk of the American people have come to the realization they’re going to played for suckers in any event.

Wasn’t Romney singing Trump’s praises back in 2012?

The American people are being played for suckers because the American people are suckers. 42% of Americans believe in ghosts. 43% of Republicans believe Obama is Muslim. Americans can’t find their own country on an unmarked map. Vast numbers of people who pay no federal income tax nevertheless believe Obama raised their taxes. People are suckers. Suckers get played.
