Roemer for DNC chair?

Ringmaster at Centerfield is saying that both Senate Minority Leader Reid and House Minority Leader Pelosi are backing Tim Roemer for DNC chairman signalling a centrist shift for the party of Jefferson and Jackson. Any opinions you more-politically-connected?

  • I wrote about this yesterday as part of the post here.
Here‘s a link to at least one place repoting who supports Roemer.

I think that what is most interesting about this is that if Roemer is chosen, it seems to be a setback for the Hillary crowd, because I can’t imagine a Roemer-headed DNC would put Hillary in a place to make a serious run for the 2008 nomination.

  • Thanks for the link, caltechgirl. I’ve been meaning to put you on my regular blog-reading rounds and this is a good opportunity. Name-recognition aside, I don’t think that Ms. Clinton is as great a presidential candidate as many Democrats seem to think. Her negatives are too high.

  • Oh, and caltechgirl, I’ve been meaning to ask you. How are you at picking locks?

  • Hehehehe. I don’t think Hillary would be a great candidate either. But then again my personal choice for the democratic nom this year would have been Joe Lieberman….

What is this lock-picking of which you speak? I know of no such thing 😉
My gardening skills, however, are weak at best. My friend Erik had enough green thumb for several of us, if you know what I mean…..

I do have several interesting keys, though…..

Thereby hangs a tale. My father-in-law spent much of his almost 50 year career as a recruiter for a variety of high tech companies mostly in California. Whenever he interviewed a CalTech grad he’d say “So, you’re a CalTech grad, eh? Prove it!” And he’d pull a lock out of his desk expecting the nervous interviewee to pick it. Perhaps this is a skill that has faded there. Ask an old alum.

  • No, Dave, you didn’t get the joke. I know EXACTLY what you were talking about. It’s still a tradition. It’s just that because certain…ahem.. legal issues… that particular task is generally referred to among its practitioners as “gardening” with the requisite “green thumb” ratings. Hence, when I say my gardening skills are weak, I mean that I never was that great at it, but my buddy was a master. I never needed to anyway, I had all the interesting keys I needed to access all the crazy places I wanted to go.

  • Thanks for the update, caltechgirl. I’d never heard that argot.
