As I read The Hill’s article on the Department of Commerce’s proposals for reforming our system of copyright protection, I searched in vain for anything about reducing the obscene duration of copyrights under present law. While that duration grants legal monopolies to corporate owners of copyrights, I have yet to see empirical evidence that it promotes the purpose of copyrights, in the words of the U. S. Constitution, “To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts”.
