Programming languages I have known

I read a post earlier today in which the blogger noted that he had written programs in a dozen different programming languages over the years. So I sat down and began to think about it. Here’s the list of programming languages in which I’ve written at least 1,000 lines of code:

  • FORTRAN (several dialects)
  • COBOL (several dialects)
  • ALGOL (several dialects)
  • BASIC (at least a half dozen dialects)
  • BCPL
  • C/C++
  • xBase (dBase II, dBase III, dbxl, Foxbase, Foxpro)
  • Unix Bourne shell
  • PHP
  • Javascript
  • Java
  • Assembly language (CDC 6400, PDP 8, PDP 11, Interdata, DG 16-bit, Intel 4004, HIS Level 6, Z80 etc., Intel 8086 etc., Motorola 68000)

Specification languages:

  • HTML
  • TeX/LaTeX
