Preparing to Vote

I’m still stewing about voting on Tuesday. The ballot is a real chamber of horrors.

I’ll vote against Amendment 1. I’ll probably vote in favor of the tax increase for the Cook County Forest Preserve. Fun fact about Illinois: Illinois has more independently taxing jurisdictions than any other state. The forest preserve is one of those independent taxing authorities.

I’ll probably leave my vote for governor blank. In all honesty I can’t justify voting for either nudnik. Darren Bailey is a dolt and JB Pritzker is wrong about just about everything. Much of the ballot is like that.

I’ll vote for re-electing my state representative. I think my state senator is running unopposed. I won’t vote for him in any event—he voted in favor of the SAFE-T Act. I think we should eliminate cash bail for a lot of offenses but not the entire list in the present bill and in particular not for violent crimes.

Will mostly split my ticker as always. Will vote against Oz, helps that I know him, and Mastriano.

I’m lucky I have easier choices. I won’t leave anything blank. Mostly Democrats for state and federal offices, mostly Republicans for local offices.

Probably the toughest choice is the US Senate. The incumbent Democrat, Bennett, is nothing to write home about. A bit of a gray man and a very average middling Democrat. The Republican challenger is an untested anti-Trump political novice. There are arguments in both directions. Ultimately, though, I will probably go for Bennet for strategic reasons – my preference is for divided government where the GoP controls the House and the Dems control the Senate, although Bennet should easily win here regardless.

Let me help. Vote the straight Republican ticket. Vote against all levies, laws, and constitutional amendments, especially school levies. Vote for constitutional carry, and vote to secede from the Union. Vote to eliminate the Dept of Justice, FBI, CIA, and Dept of Defense and Dept Education. Vote to close the border.

  • There is no straight Republican ticket. Many offices have no Republicans running for them.

I’m voting Libertarian for Governor, tempted to vote for the dolt that the Governor, perhaps our future POTUS, campaigned for, but can’t bring myself to be as cynical as Pritzker.
