I am always darkly amused by Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s “I have a plan for that!” It always reminds me of the old Broom-Hilda strip above.
The challenges under our system as it operates presently is to
- Come up with an effective plan.
- Come up with a plan that will pass both houses of Congress.
- Come up with a plan that will pass both houses of Congress without being stuffed with a lot of extraneous stuff that is either a poison pill or that renders the plan ineffective.
IMO Elizabeth Warren is too much of a political tyro to accomplish those tasks other than in the Petri dish of a presidential campaign. The tendency that has emerged over the last 30 years for not merely trying to get what you want but to injure the other political party in the process is not conducive to good, effective government. Don’t snicker. Such a thing is possible.
Of the top 3-4 contenders only Biden came off as not being stark raving mad. Harris is a weather vane. Booker hasn’t though things through; the sound bite king. The Colorado Governor is a sane man, but there is no room for him on the lifeboat.
“Don’t snicker. Such a thing is possible.”
Dave, you’re such a card!
I know this is pie in the sky, but I think we would be better off with 6 year terms for senate, 4 for the house and 6 for President.
Idea of course being to make elections take a back seat for a year or two.
Warren’s predilections were made apparent when her brainchild the CFPB was set up. No accountability, no limits to its power, and a permanent funding source (why Trump hasn’t terminated it with extreme prejudice I something I hold against him). If elected president she would rule by decree, or certainly try to.
