I’ve said before that I love a good polemic. The best I’ve found today is from Eugene Dunn in the New York Daily News. I don’t agree with much of it but I do think that this passage bears consideration:
Do they think Trump — who mounted one of the greatest comebacks in American political history and after being left for dead in the wake of that “Access Hollywood†videotape — is just going to send up the white flag of surrender and go quietly into the night? Or will he pull the trigger on a ferocious offensive against what he repeatedly calls a “witch hunt†that has purposely hampered his administration from Day One?
Given Trump’s ferocious fighting character, given that he once dedicated a whole book chapter on the concept of “revenge†and once famously said that he “screws back in spades,†I’d like all the delusional, impeachment-hungry Democrats to consider how they envision the most powerful man in the world, seething with revenge in his veins, might react to such a turn of events.
and as if on cue Robert Reich provides an excellent column-length fantasy in Newsweek on the extra-constitutional action of “annulling” the Trump presidency.
I’ll leave you with this thought. There are very few in public life, at least in national politics, whose campaigns and lives would stand up to the sort of scrutiny that Trump’s has received over the last two years. Nancy Pelosi is not Mother Theresa. Chuck Schumer is not Francis of Assisi.
‘Given Trump’s ferocious fighting character, given that he once dedicated a whole book chapter on the concept of “revenge†and once famously said that he “screws back in spades,‒
Yeah, well, I for one think he’s at base a pussy. But if the Dems do take the House, we’ll see just how ferocious his fighting character is when he has to confront folks with real power to injure him.

You may well be right, sam. One thing we should factor into our thinking is that both major political parties are littered with the corpses of the dead political ambitions of people who underestimated Trump. I do not know whether that means that he is smart and ruthless or they are dumb and arrogant or some of both.
I think we know a lot less about Trump than we have about most presidential candidates. His employees all sign NDAs and everyone knows that he sure like crazy, so people don’t talk much. Still haven’t seen his taxes.
Still, I don’t think knowing more about him would matter much. As he said, he could publicly shoot someone and his people would still vote for him. He is the culmination of what the GOP talkers have been aiming towards for years. They got a taste with Palin. Now that have the real thing. They wanted someone who would go out and say mean things to liberals. Who would bash immigrants and minorities. Who would Lonnie the military. Who would promise then better pay and jobs. Then cut taxes and increase deficit spending like every other Republican.
He gives them so much of what they have wanted that it good criminal past doesn’t matter. His lack of character ( a former talking go point against the Clinton’s) didn’t matter. Then he had the good fortune to run against the worst Dem candidate and in my lifetime.
Finally, he is the most media savvy politician, by an order of magnitude, we have ever seen. He has the media doing exactly what he wants

Rants that don’t devolve into recycled talking points and little kids throwing cow chips can be entertaining. So, I’d knock him a few points for the master deal maker and more for the “sheeple” verbiage. Democracy requires the other side be treated with at least the same respect one gives a Irish Wolfhound eyeing your burger.
Your other point is well taken. The press has done a remarkable job of helping politicians (and henchcritters) stick to their talking points and has a lack of interest in their personal holdings.
Had meeting cancel, so I wondered if the following is true.
“Do they think Trump — who mounted one of the greatest comebacks in American political history and after being left for dead in the wake of that “Access Hollywood†videotape ”
Went back and looked at the polls. They hardly budged. There was almost no comeback, let alone one of the greatest in history. Trump supporters must feel the need to engage in the same hyperbole that Trump himself uses.
