Out of Sight, Out of Mind

For Californians who are happy with how their state has solved the potential problems of homes that can’t stand up to the elements with zoning requirements, California has more than 5,000 trailer parks with something like 1 million residents. Indeed, there are 13 in Marin County alone.

Trailers bounce pretty well in earthquakes. We don’t have tornadoes, we have quakes.

I stand (self) corrected. Mobile homes fall off their pedestals and can be damaged in quakes. There’a a simple, inexpensive fix which of course the industry has apparently blocked.

  • About 7,900 mobile homes were destroyed in the Northridge earthquake because they didn’t have ERBS (earthquake-resisting bracing systems).
