Today is my dad’s birthday. I didn’t forget—I’m just busy. I’m taking another class which I’ll write about some other time. It takes me an hour to get out to the class which runs from 8:30am to 6:00pm. Now I’m beat. I’ve got four days of this. It doesn’t help that I just got about four hours of sleep last night.
Recently, I embarked on a great adventure. I’m having all of my dad’s old slides and home movies converted to high definition digital format. Some of the slides go back to the 1930s and some of the movies to the 1940s. If the results are good, I’ll have lots of new pictures of him and other family members, some of which I’ve never seen before. I’ll keep you informed.
Up until now I’ve hesitated about even looking at them. They’re so fragile and irreplaceable.
As I think I’ve mentioned before my dad died at too young an age. I was in my teens. One day he was just gone. I had no warning. I was in shock for months, maybe years. He was the strongest, bravest, smartest, kindest man I’ve ever known.
With all of this season’s movies and TV shows about time travel I’ve been thinking lately about what I would do if I could spend just one more day with him. I have hundreds of questions. And maybe a few answers.
Interesting…today is my late Mom’s birthday as well.
Dave,
I’m looking to do the same thing with some old family slides and movies – can I ask which service you will use?
When I get my results I’ll report on them
Thanks!
Dave,
Is the cost reasonable? One of my neighbors was spooked enough by the Matthew flood damage that he wants to collect his family’s old slides from the 50’s and 60’s and do something similar to what you have.
I’ll report back to you when I get the results. If the results are good, I think it’s reasonable but we’ll see.
