There’s more saber-rattling from North Korea and its tone is becoming increasingly dire. From The Daily Mail:
North Korea has warned it could ‘burn Manhattan down to ashes’ by firing a hydrogen bomb in to the heart of New York City.
Kim Jong UN’s regime said it was capable of sending the weapon to America’s East Coast using one of its ‘intercontinental ballistic missiles’.
Pyongyang’s state-run media outlet claimed the country’s hydrogen bomb was ‘much bigger than the one developed by the Soviet Union’.
Other reports have somewhat different accounts, including much more direct threats, i.e. if we don’t end military exercises, they’ll nuke New York.
What should we do in response to these threats?
- Nothing. They don’t have the capability to do what they’re threatening.
- Nothing. They’re blustering.
- Ask the Chinese to curb their dog otherwise we will.
- Be on standby. If anything hinky starts happening, nuke them.
- Nuke them. Now.

I think C but threatening nuclear attack is not to be taken lightly and Kim is a nutcase.
I agree, and I’ve been surprised that the NK threat hasn’t made it into the presidential race in any way I’ve noticed. I think ‘C’ as well. Granted the NK’s do love their crazy rhetorical flourishes, but a nuclear threat from a presumably nuclear state is a serious matter.
I’m not sufficiently familiar with the sanctions regime to know whether the latest additional sanctions matter. I suspect not very much. Baby Kim reads as insecure, and that’s worrying.
And if the Chinese do not curb their dog? Are we really going to oust Kim over their objections?
I would go with something else entirely — tell the Chinese that if they don’t curb their dog, we will impose sanctions on China. I’m happier threatening a trade war and an economic downturn, than military action that will devastate both Koreas.
F-Move Seoul.
