Yeah, I agree. It’s interesting that Trump is breaking from how normal Presidents act, which is saving all the controversial pardons for their last day in office. Personally, I think that practice is cowardly.
That practice may be cowardly, but this one is buying him support, so is at least opportunistic. Which is worse?
Trump’s pardon will be adjudicated in an election, probably several elections.
Last minute pardons by outgoing Presidents never carry any political price except maybe to the legacy of the pardoner.
If we are going to have crappy pardons I would much rather have them when the pardoner and his/her political allies will stand for an election.
