Mason Adams, 1919-2005

Somehow it escaped me that Mason Adams had died. You may remember him as having portrayed managing editor Charlie Hume on the Lou Grant TV show from 1977 to 1982 for which he received three Emmy nominations. He worked continuously from 1940 very nearly until his death last week. He had roles on stage, in a number of memorable radio roles, the screen, and hundreds of roles on television.

Probably his most constant work was doing television voice-overs. He hawked hundreds of products from the jellies and jams of the J. M. Smuckers company (“With a name like Smucker’s, you’ve got to be good&#148) to Cadbury Eggs, proving you can be nearly invisible and still work in show business. Television won’t sound the same without him.
