It’s Not Just a Messaging Problem

Despite its provenance, you might want to take a look at John Ellis’s post at PJMedia, taking fellow conservatives to task for their messaging on the $15 minimum wage:

Sadly, based on much of the rhetoric, it appears that many of my fellow conservatives don’t want fast food workers and their fellow low income workers in other fields to make $15 an hour. Over the last couple of years, many articles have been written attributing moral words like “value” and “worth” to low-income workers – according to a recent Slant News article, “Fast Food Workers Do Not Deserve That $15 an Hour.” Even conservative blogger Matt Walsh penned an article last year titled, “Fast Food Workers: You Do Not Deserve $15 an Hour to Flip Burgers, and That’s Ok.”

To be clear, I’m not necessarily quibbling with the content of Walsh’s article, and I understand the value of “click bait” titles (I mean, scroll up), but I am discomforted by the tone-deaf use of moral language in reference to low-income workers.

I think that’s a start but I think that conservatives’ problems are more serious than messaging problems. In particular, I think their problems and, indeed, the Republican Party’s problems will only deepen if the GOP remains or is even thought of as the party of pain, hardheartedness, and narrow-minded moralization.

Right, like those heartless Republicans that put bakers out of business and in debt because they refuse to serve sodomites–and just look at at their heartlessness in Detroit. And then they have the gaul to moralize about it,

I’m not sure the Gauls were great moralists. Apparently they were quite fond of the grape.

  • And wild boar. Or aren’t you a fan of Asterix’s?

It needs to be pointed out again the worth and price are totally unrelated. Water is essential to life, gold not so much, but an ounce of the latter carries a far higher price than an ounce of the former.

The same holds for family pictures, for which people will risk their lives to save from a flood or tornado, but which would sell for a very low price on the market.

Agree, the GOP needs to grasp the idea that everyone not a donor is grasping parasite, terrorist symp, Rothschild dupe, etc. However, if they be for it, I’m agin it, rules because its easier than thinking.
